Kinda makes you wonder why anyone would waste money on a Hellkitten, when for the money, they could easily have much quicker cars. The Cobalt in this was on low boost, lmao.

Much quicker cars *that are not warrentied, maybe not eligible to insure, and will be your responsibility to fix when they blow up.

Reliability, creature comforts, warranty, they aren't built by Jim "Wazzup" Yodawg, overall comfort, etc.

The other cars in the video could mostly be had for cheaper too though, lol

Most of the cars here wouldn't cost to much to fix, even the major issues, especially when you consider the other option cost twice as much as most of these, that's 30k extra to use on repairs, lol

You say that as if the Hellcat is more reliable then a LS like most the cars in this video have, lmao. I guess if a retiree wants to move somewhat fast and be comfy, then the Hellcat might fit the bill.

Also, how would they be eligible to insure? Pretty easy to ensure fully built track cars where I live *shrugs*

Well since it hasn't been modified and will be free to fix, that will in essence be more reliable on the cost front. Also, there have been less Hellcat failures so far than the LS7 in it's first few months so... Yes, I am saying that it will be more reliable.

New engines and the labor to swap them in are not cheap, and neither is having your ride down for major repairs if it's your only one. Some people out there can handle replacing/rebuilding major components themselves, but most of everyone will not. This is why a new car with a warrenty can command a $30k premium over a used one, even if the used car is faster.

EDIT: also, a lot of insurers will not cover you if your car has significant mods on it, and you can count on having your coverage yanked when the time comes to file a claim if they discover the mods post accident. I knew a guy on LS1tech who got rear ended and had his claim denied because his car had fucking longtubes on it. A mild-as-hell mod was enough for them to deny the claim.

Not really. 70k for a Hellcat vs the cost of building some of those motors, the upkeep, gas mileage, fuel costs, NO cost....meanwhile the Hellcat will drive to work 5 days a week, grab the groceries, and stop at the track every weekend with a warranty. That 900HP 'Vette was impressive, but I wouldnt want to know what it would cost if something in the motor broke on one of those pulls.

You can get a LS for virtually free if your smart about it..and most these guys do it themselves I'm sure, but if someones looking at a Hellcat, I guess they wouldn't really be the kind to work on their own cars. And wow, what insurance company was he using? So I know to avoid using them.

The LS7 isn't all that great though, could easily build a Hellcat killer with a junkyard iron block LS1 and some boost..and probably still outhandle it depending what car.

It was one of the big ones; Allstate or State Farm I think. But the truth is if they don't explicitly state what their policy on mods is, they likely don't cover hevily modded cars, and will punish owners who didn't say anything about mods in the beginning of the insurance contract by yanking coverage when they go to file a claim.

This is one of the reasons why mods don't add resale value to a used car on the market (the other being the modding work was done by who knows with unknown competency and without warranty). If you have a hevily modded car, call your insurance company right now and find out what their policy is on mods. If they don't cover modded cars, switch as soon as you can to someone who does.

You don't really have to build a LS to put down that much power though, and they're probably about the same for gas in alot of cases..unless they're running race fuel.. And at the point of going to the store, having a warranty, but still being slow..why not just get a SRT8? or a RT for that matter?

And the other reason being if you mod a car, the next buyer might want to do it different anyway. And I'm going to be calling them before I start doing anything ridiculous to my car personally. I don't care about resale myself, because cars in general like this are money pits, even a factory Hellcat, you have to accept that before buying them, haha

I DD a Magnum RT. The difference in power between the 5.7, 6.1 and 6.4L motors in their NA state is very noticeable. Moving up to the 6.2L Supercharged motor is a totally different can of worms.

Also, to build an LS with over 650 HP will cost you a lot. It may be "easy," but you'll be boosting it, so you better get a very good dyno tune, which arent cheap either. Motors like the LS7 are fantastic, but have limits in their stock forms, and bolt ons will not produce Hellcat level performance for the same price tag and warranty value.

Im very happy with my 5.7, but I will certainly be upgrading to a bigger motor at some point, like a 426, or something in that ballpark. Having a powertrain warranty is nothing to downplay. When something goes wrong and was not beaten to death, the shop that built your LS wont eat the costs, they'll have a warranty period that will cover specifics (such as parts or parts and labor). If you built that LS in your garage, I hope you dont need to be at work tomorrow morning with that motor.

by your logic, why do ferrari/lamborghini exist, when I can get a golf r wound off its Face with bilstien coil overs and 8 pot brembos. It will rip them to shreds on the street, at the drags and on the track, for the whole 20 mins before something goes pop.

its not the destination, its the journey. And some times the more money you have, the less time you have, the more that journey counts, and the more special the vehicle you choose to take it in. Any retard can throw 15k at an ls1 and build a monster. Earning the coin to achieve a 'hellkitty', or a viper, or an Aston for that matter takes time, determination, sacrifice and persistence.

TL;DR: Judging by your post and your comments, you missed the point. And thank god we don't get cobalts down here. We have the VL Turbo set for that...
